“Alea II”  – print taken from an original oil on canvas painting, 102 x 90 cm (2013). Part of a series of paintings exploring  smaller corners of Greek mythology. The second in the “Alea” series inspired by the story surrounding the demise of the original temple of Athena Alea, situated 4 miles southeast of the modern town of Trípolis. The Temple of Athena Alea at Tegea was described by the Greek geographer Pausanias,  as excelling all others in the Peloponesse. It was however consumed and destroyed by fire when the High Priestess Chrysis placed a lighted candle near a curtain and then drifted off into peaceful slumber.
